Tanzania is taking another step toward positioning itself as a destination for climate and impact investment through the launch of the $5.3 million RESOLVE-NbS programme, an initiative designed to unlock investment opportunities in nature-based solutions.
Implemented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), the programme will run from 2025 to 2027 in Morogoro and Iringa regions. It aims to integrate sustainable land management, agriculture and water conservation into local development while creating models capable of attracting private capital.
According to IUCN Tanzania Deputy Country Representative Anthony Mhagama, the initiative is focused on demonstrating that environmental protection can generate measurable economic value.
“What we are beginning to see is how these solutions can improve productivity, strengthen resilience and create a foundation for future investment.”
The programme is expected to benefit more than 30,000 people through community-led climate adaptation initiatives and sustainable resource management projects.
For investors, the significance extends beyond the project’s $5.3 million budget. The initiative seeks to create investment-ready opportunities in sectors such as agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, watershed restoration and carbon markets—areas that are attracting increasing global capital as businesses and governments adapt to climate risks.
The project also aligns with Tanzania’s broader ambition to attract sustainable finance. Recent investment forums have highlighted billions of dollars in opportunities across infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy and environmental sustainability, reflecting growing investor confidence in the country’s long-term prospects.
CEO Roundtable of Tanzania Head of Projects Hawa Urungu emphasized the importance of scalable solutions.
“Businesses are increasingly looking for models that are practical, scalable and investment-ready.”
As global investors increasingly seek opportunities that deliver both financial returns and measurable environmental impact, Tanzania’s natural assets—from forests and watersheds to agricultural landscapes—are emerging as a potentially valuable investment frontier.
A Message for Investors
The real significance of the RESOLVE-NbS programme lies not in its size but in its potential. By transforming conservation efforts into commercially viable opportunities, Tanzania is laying the groundwork for a new generation of green investments. For investors looking toward the future, the country’s natural capital may prove to be one of its most valuable assets.
