DODOMA. Tanzania’s efforts to transform Dodoma into a modern administrative and commercial centre are entering a new phase, with the government confirming that Msalato International Airport will commence commercial operations by September 2026.
The airport, one of the country’s most significant infrastructure projects, is expected to improve connectivity to the capital, support business activity, and unlock new investment opportunities across real estate, logistics, hospitality, and transport services.
Speaking during a June 2026 inspection visit, Minister of Works and Transport Hon. Makame Mbarawa, said construction progress remains on track and the facility will be ready to serve both domestic and international traffic.
“Msalato International Airport will be a catalyst for Dodoma’s growth, connecting our capital to the world and opening new opportunities for investors,” Mbarawa said.

Located on the outskirts of Dodoma, the airport is designed to handle up to 1.5 million passengers annually, with a runway capable of accommodating large aircraft.
