PARIS – Tanzania has called on French businesses to increase their investments in the country. The government highlighted many opportunities across key sectors of the economy as it works to achieve a US$1 trillion economy under the Tanzania Development Vision 2050.
The invitation was made by Tanzania Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba during the Tanzania–France Business Roundtable in Paris. He led a government delegation focused on strengthening economic cooperation and promoting private sector partnerships between Tanzania and France.
Tanzania–France Economic Cooperation
Speaking on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Dr. Nchemba thanked the Government of France and the business communities of both nations for their continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
He noted that Tanzania and France are moving beyond traditional development cooperation towards a more investment-driven partnership. This partnership will focus on industrialisation, technology transfer, innovation, value addition, and sustainable economic growth.
Development Vision 2050 Creates New Investment Opportunities
Dr. Nchemba said Tanzania is implementing ambitious reforms under Development Vision 2050, which aims to transform the country into a US$1 trillion economy through industrialisation, innovation, infrastructure expansion, and private sector growth.
To support this vision, the government continues to improve the business environment by strengthening institutions, expanding infrastructure, and introducing investor-friendly policies.
The Prime Minister highlighted agriculture as a pillar of Tanzania’s economy, contributing approximately 26 percent of GDP while providing livelihoods for more than 65 percent of the population.
He also identified significant investment opportunities in infrastructure, including ports, railways, roads, airports, and energy projects that are improving Tanzania’s regional connectivity.
Other priority sectors include mineral processing and value addition, particularly for graphite, lithium, gold, diamonds, and tanzanite.
Dr. Nchemba further encouraged investment in the blue economy, citing opportunities in fisheries, aquaculture, marine transport, port services, and coastal tourism along Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coastline.
He added that Tanzania’s youthful population offers enormous potential for investments in digital technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, innovation, and skills development, areas where French expertise can support the country’s economic transformation.
A Stable and Investor-Friendly Business Environment
The Prime Minister emphasised that Tanzania offers investors political stability, predictable policies, and strong institutional support.
He noted that the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) provides one-stop investment facilitation services, helping investors establish and operate businesses efficiently.
He also highlighted legal guarantees that protect foreign investments, including the repatriation of profits and access to international arbitration mechanisms, giving investors greater confidence and security.
Tanzania’s Message to French Investors
Dr. Nchemba concluded by inviting French companies to become long-term partners in Tanzania’s economic transformation.
He stressed that Tanzania offers access not only to a domestic market of more than 70 million people, but also to wider regional and international markets through its strategic location, expanding infrastructure, abundant natural resources, peaceful political environment, and skilled young workforce.
“Tanzania offers peace, stability, strategic geography, abundant resources and a young workforce. These are complementary strengths that create exceptional opportunities for shared prosperity,” he said.
