MOSCOW – Tanzanian President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan has commenced a historic state visit to Russia from June 3 to June 5, 2026, at the invitation of Russian President Hon. Vladimir Putin. The visit marks a significant milestone in Tanzania-Russia relations and is only the second official visit by a Tanzanian Head of State to Russia, following the landmark trip by Julius Nyerere in 1969.

The three-day visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and strategic cooperation between the two nations. President Samia will hold bilateral talks with President Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow, focusing on key sectors including trade, investment, education, science and technology, energy, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism.

A major highlight of the visit is President Samia’s participation in the 29th edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, one of the world’s leading economic forums. She is scheduled to address the forum’s plenary session, providing Tanzania with a global platform to showcase its economic transformation agenda and investment opportunities.

The forum will offer Tanzania an opportunity to present progress made under the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, ongoing reforms aimed at improving the business environment, and major developments in industrialisation, infrastructure, energy, mining, tourism, and special economic zones.

President Samia will also attend the Tanzania-Russia Business and Investment Forum, where government officials, investors, and business leaders from both countries will explore opportunities to expand trade and investment.

Several cooperation agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, covering areas such as higher education, science and technology, investment promotion, and information and communication technology.

The visit is expected to enhance Tanzania’s visibility on the global stage while promoting the country as a peaceful, politically stable, and investment-friendly destination. It also reinforces Tanzania’s commitment to economic diplomacy and international cooperation as a pathway to sustainable development and economic growth.

As Tanzania seeks to attract more foreign investment and strengthen global partnerships, President Samia’s Russia visit represents another important step toward advancing the nation’s economic ambitions and expanding its international influence.
