DODOMA. Tanzania’s efforts to transform Dodoma into a modern administrative and commercial centre are entering a new phase, with the government confirming that Msalato International Airport will commence commercial operations by September 2026.
The airport, one of the country’s most significant infrastructure projects, is expected to improve connectivity to the capital, support business activity, and unlock new investment opportunities across real estate, logistics, hospitality, and transport services.
Speaking during a June 2026 inspection visit, Minister of Works and Transport Hon. Makame Mbarawa, said construction progress remains on track and the facility will be ready to serve both domestic and international traffic.
“Msalato International Airport will be a catalyst for Dodoma’s growth, connecting our capital to the world and opening new opportunities for investors,” Mbarawa said.
A Strategic Asset for Tanzania’s Capital
Located on the outskirts of Dodoma, the airport is designed to handle up to 1.5 million passengers annually, with a runway capable of accommodating large aircraft. Analysts say the project will reduce travel bottlenecks, improve access for investors and business travellers, and strengthen Dodoma’s role as a national decision‑making centre.
Investor Opportunities Extend Beyond Aviation
Large transport projects often act as catalysts for surrounding commercial development. Industry observers highlight opportunities in:
- Hotels and conference facilities
- Residential and mixed‑use real estate
- Logistics and warehousing
- Retail and commercial services
- Transport and mobility solutions
Real Estate and Logistics Demand Rising
Property developers expect the airport to accelerate urban expansion and increase demand for both residential and commercial projects. The launch also complements broader investments in the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and road upgrades, strengthening Dodoma’s connectivity to key economic centres nationwide.
Investor Lens
For investors, Msalato International Airport represents more than aviation infrastructure, it signals confidence in Dodoma’s long‑term growth trajectory. Opportunities are emerging across real estate, hospitality, logistics, and commercial services as the city evolves into a broader business and investment destination.
Growth Prospects
With commercial operations set to begin in September 2026, Msalato International Airport is poised to become one of Tanzania’s most important economic assets.
For investors, the message is clear: as connectivity improves and economic activity expands, Dodoma is becoming one of Tanzania’s most compelling long‑term infrastructure and real‑estate growth stories.
