DODOMA, Tanzania – Deputy Minister for Energy, Ms. Salome Makamba, has directed the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) to improve the efficiency and speed of fuel transportation systems across Tanzania to address recurring fuel shortages.

Speaking during a working session with EWURA management in Dodoma, Ms. Makamba emphasized the critical need to expand national fuel storage capacity to prevent supply disruptions and ensure consistent availability of petroleum products nationwide.

While commending EWURA for its ongoing efforts in managing fuel distribution, the Deputy Minister insisted that more robust measures must be implemented to strengthen Tanzania’s energy security and create a more resilient supply chain.

In addition to addressing fuel supply challenges, Ms. Makamba urged the regulatory authority to develop strategies for reducing the cost of household electrical installation materials. She noted that making these essential components more affordable would significantly accelerate electricity access in rural areas, supporting the government’s broader electrification goals.

The Deputy Minister further highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for youth within the energy sector, stating that such initiatives would not only address unemployment but also develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting both current and future energy projects across the country.

This directive comes as Tanzania continues to implement its energy sector development plan, which aims to ensure reliable and affordable energy access for all citizens while building domestic capacity in the growing energy industry.
