DAR ES SALAAM. Tanzania is seeking private investment to accelerate the expansion of its world‑renowned nature tourism industry after unveiling a US$575 million investment portfolio covering infrastructure, aviation access, conservation technology and visitor facilities across national parks and protected areas.

The investment opportunities, presented through the Tanzania Investment Growth Facility (TIGF) Public Sector Investment Dealbook, are being spearheaded by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA). The programme forms part of Tanzania’s broader strategy to strengthen sustainable tourism while attracting long‑term private capital into one of the country’s largest foreign exchange‑earning sectors.

Expanding Tourism Infrastructure

The portfolio includes upgrades to 3,833 kilometres of all‑weather park roads, improvements to the Serengeti Main Road, and the modernisation of eight strategic aerodromes including Seronera, Mahale, and Rubondo, to improve accessibility to iconic wildlife destinations.

Projects are projected to attract an additional 250,000 tourists annually while generating about US$21 million in direct annual returns from tourism facilities.

Beyond transport, the package proposes construction of 52 new accommodation facilities across 13 national parks, alongside visitor centres, boardwalks, rhino sanctuaries, cable‑car attractions and eight additional park entry gates. These projects are expected to strengthen Tanzania’s competitiveness as a year‑round safari destination while opening less‑developed tourism circuits to commercial investment.

Smart Parks and Community Coexistence

The programme allocates US$70 million for Smart Park technology, including drones, digital radio communication systems, GPS tracking equipment and surveillance aircraft across 21 national parks. A further US$30 million is earmarked for human‑wildlife coexistence initiatives designed to support surrounding communities and conservation efforts.

These investments aim to modernise conservation management while ensuring tourism growth remains sustainable and inclusive.

Government Sees Infrastructure as an Investment Catalyst

The pipeline complements ongoing tourism infrastructure upgrades under the REGROW programme.

Speaking in Arusha in June 2026, TANAPA Conservation Commissioner CPA (T) Musa Nasoro Kuji said:

“The investments undertaken through the REGROW project are aimed at improving conservation management, enhancing visitor experiences and creating an enabling environment for sustainable tourism growth and private‑sector investment.”

Investor Outlook

Tourism remains one of Tanzania’s leading sources of foreign exchange, supported by globally recognised attractions including the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and an expanding southern safari circuit.

For investors, the new portfolio offers opportunities across eco‑lodges, hospitality, aviation services, transport infrastructure, tourism technology, conservation services, and destination management.

For investors, the message is clear: Tanzania is moving beyond traditional wildlife tourism by creating an investment‑ready pipeline that combines conservation, infrastructure and private capital to unlock the next phase of growth in one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.
