DAR ES SALAAM. Tanzania’s manufacturing industry is preparing for the 19th President’s Manufacturer of the Year Awards (PMAYA) on September 2, an event that will spotlight the companies driving industrialisation and shaping the country’s economic future.

Organised annually by the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), PMAYA recognises excellence across diverse industrial categories. The 2026 ceremony will be held at the Superdome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, bringing together manufacturers, investors, financiers and policymakers.

For investors, the significance of PMAYA lies not only in the awards but in the window it provides into Tanzania’s manufacturing base, the sectors, companies and capabilities where industrial investment is gaining momentum.

A Broad Manufacturing Investment Landscape

PMAYA categories cover industries ranging from food processing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, metals, plastics and rubber, electronics, machinery, automotive assembly, renewable energy, and mineralrelated products.

This diversity reflects the scale of Tanzania’s industrial opportunity. For international investors, it means potential partnerships are not confined to one segment but span multiple value chains.

Manufacturing as a Multiplier

Industrial investment creates opportunities beyond the factory floor.

  • A new foodprocessing plant requires agricultural suppliers, packaging, transport, warehousing, and energy services.
  • Pharmaceutical production demands laboratories, quality control, and distribution networks.
  • Metals and machinery manufacturing requires industrial inputs, equipment, and engineering services.

Manufacturing therefore acts as a multiplier, creating investment opportunities across supply chains and support services.

PMAYA Highlights the Companies Driving Industrialisation

Since its launch in 2005, PMAYA has become a platform for recognising manufacturers whose investments and innovation contribute to Tanzania’s industrial transformation.

The 2024 edition saw Tanzania Cigarette Public Limited Company (TCC) named overall winner, alongside recognition for companies across multiple categories. The 2026 edition arrives at a time when Tanzania is deepening local production and strengthening industrial value chains.

Why Investors Should Watch PMAYA

For investors, PMAYA offers a snapshot of where Tanzania’s private manufacturing capabilities are developing.

Opportunities extend across:

  • Industrial plants
  • Agroprocessing
  • Pharmaceuticals and medical equipment
  • Textiles and apparel
  • Metals and machinery
  • Automotive assembly
  • Renewable energy equipment
  • Industrial packaging
  • Logistics and warehousing
  • Manufacturing technology and services

The event also creates a platform for interaction between manufacturers, financiers, suppliers and potential strategic partners.

Investor Outlook

Tanzania’s industrialisation story is shifting from policy ambition to expansion of productive capacity.

The September 2 PMAYA ceremony will not only recognise leading manufacturers but also provide investors with a snapshot of the companies and sectors shaping Tanzania’s industrial future.

For investors, the opportunity is clear: PMAYA is more than an awards night, it is a lens into the manufacturing ecosystems where capital, technology and partnerships can accelerate Tanzania’s industrial transformation.
