While several countries issued travel advisories, the government and local operators have been working to assure the world that the country’s iconic safari destinations remain open and safe.
Advisory Impact vs. Reality: updated in late October, cites “unrest, crime, terrorism, and targeting individuals” . Despite this, Tanzania’s national park authority (TANAPA) confirmed that all its parks are “fully operational” and “safe,” with no incidents targeting tourists recorded .
Government Assurance: The Tanzanian government has held press conferences to deliver a strong message of safety and stability. Government spokesperson Gerson Msigwa directly addressed international tourists, stating, “Our nation remains peaceful, calm, and open to all who wish to explore its beauty” and emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting visitors .
Operator Confidence: On the ground, major safari operators reported that business in key tourism areas has continued with minimal disruption. “Things are back to normal. Tanzanians very much avoid confrontation,” said Jean Du Plessis, Tanzania regional director for Wilderness Safaris. Other major tour companies confirmed they had seen no cancellations, only an increase in queries from travelers seeking reassurance .
